The complete renovation, extension, and eco-retrofit of an end-of-terrace house in Finchley. The original house was an infill built in the 1970s at the end of a 1930s terrace. Whilst it had an interesting interlocking section with a flying freehold and first floor living area, the house was in need of modernisation, with many of the shortfalls of its original construction beginning to show through.
We extended the house to the rear to create a large kitchen, dining, and family space that connects to the garden, and converted the former integrated garage at the front into new living accommodation.
Alongside the whole house renovation, our client placed sustainability at the centre of the project and tasked Harp & Harp with providing energy-efficient renovation solutions. The house now uses an air source heat pump, MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery), triple glazed windows, solar PV panels and external wall insulation. Together these have greatly reduced the building’s heat loss and increased energy savings, in ways that are understated and largely invisible, integrating seamlessly with the interior design.
